Peachy Canyon Winery’s second generation, Jake and Josh Beckett, take over the reins.
—Peachy Canyon Winery, one of the earliest wineries in Paso Robles wine country, is now managed by the second generation of the founding Beckett family. Brothers Josh and Jake Beckett have taken the reins from their parents, Doug and Nancy Beckett. When the Beckett parents founded the winery in 1988, it was one of only 10 in the region.
The brothers worked in the vineyards and winery alongside their parents and in 2004 created their own brand, Chronic Cellars. With the sale of Chronic Cellars to Winery Exchange finalized last year Jake and Josh returned to Peachy Canyon Winery to take on the daily operations and responsibilities of the family business.
“It’s great to have my brother back on the team,” said Jake Beckett, General Manager. “We have worked together in many capacities over the past 20 years. My favorite years working with Josh, both at Chronic Cellars and Peachy Canyon, were when he was the winemaker.”
“Having Josh back as full-time winemaker ensures the quality and future of the Peachy Canyon wines,” said Doug Beckett. “His being there will truly make a difference.”
“I am very excited to be back and to be a part of its new energy and success”, Josh said. “Many years ago, I planted 30 acres of dry-farmed Zinfandel and Rhone grapes at our Mustang Springs Ranch. Now I get the chance to work with these grapes. It is something that I hoped would be possible one day. Along with these new plantings we have our other estate Snow and Thibido Vineyards coming online in the Adelaida and Willow Creek districts. These are going to produce spectacular fruit. I will be fortunate to be hands-on with these vineyards from dirt to bottle. I look forward to carrying on Peachy Canyon’s legacy and taking it to a higher level.”
Peachy Canyon was instrumental in establishing Paso Robles as a key California wine region. Historically known for its Zinfandel, today’s vineyards are also planted in Rhone and Bordeaux varieties. Josh and Jake acquired some new vineyards and now cultivate 102 acres on the Paso Robles westside, all within the three most coveted sub-AVAs: Willow Creek, Adelaida and the Templeton Gap. The vineyards, planted a full 40-percent in Rhone and Bordeaux are the foundation for the brothers continuing to develop Rhone and Bordeaux blends. Beginning in 2019, Peachy Canyon uses only fruit from its vineyards.
Peachy Canyon Winery is now offering a special wine tasting experience, outside on a beautiful lawn, by reservation. The space is filled with picnic tables, Adirondack chairs and shade. Enjoy a pre-poured flight of five delicious Peachy Canyon wines for a safe and enjoyable tasting experience.
The outdoors tasting “space,” located at 1480 N. Bethel Road in Templeton, is accepting reservations for groups of six at a time. Tasting hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Ample time is allowed for each group to relax and enjoy the wine and winery. Time is allowed between reservations for thorough cleaning and sanitizing to help protect the health of visitors and staff.
The staff wears masks and visitors are asked to do the same until you are seated. The winery practices strict daily health check protocols and no staff member who is exhibiting symptoms of illness is allowed to work.
