celebrating gold!
Hey Peachy Canyon Fam! As we head towards harvest again this year, we wanted to let you in behind the scenes a little bit more this time. As the 10th oldest winery in Paso Robles, we’re no strangers to how quickly this season shifts from preparation to action. Around this time each year, the energy builds as we start noticing the signs that harvest is just around the corner. Our grapes are showing signs of veraison with grape clusters turning from green to red.
While we look forward to the wines still in the making, we’re taking a moment to look back at some of the wines we’ve just shared, and those soon to be released.
2024 ROSÉ - 97 Points CCWC
Harvest beginning…
Our 2024 Rosé prevailed despite a vintage filled with multiple heat spikes, a late summer surge of over 95°F. The wet winter and spring prior, provided moisture for extra hydration. The journey of our 2024 GSM Rosé began with Grenache. About half of the Grenache in this blend was picked early and whole-cluster pressed, giving us a bright and delicate base. The rest of the Grenache—along with Syrah and Mourvèdre—was collected later in the season as saignée from our red wine fermentations. By carefully adding these saignées into the already fermenting Grenache, we created a continuous fermentation that lasted an impressive 51 days before every trace of sugar was consumed.
Counoise entered the picture a little later. Harvested separately, it was gently whole-cluster pressed until we reached the perfect volume of juice. Both fermentations were deliberately kept very cold to slow yeast activity, preserving the complex aromatics we prize in this wine. Once fermentation was complete, the wines were sulfited and racked into neutral French oak barrels. This gentle resting period helped the wine clarify and evolve before we blended the lots together in February 2025. The finished blend was heat and cold stabilized and filtered to ensure clarity in the glass before being bottled in March of 2025. After submitting this wine to the Central Coast Wine Competition, it received a scoring of 97 points granting us a double gold status.
2023 Nancy’s View - 96 Points CCWC
Unpacking grapes
Named after the view from our matriarch, Nancy Beckett’s window, this wine has always held a special place in our heart. Here at Peachy Canyon, we love our zinfandel grapes because of the versatility and variety these grapes give us year after year. This wine comes from a historic vintage where we received copious amounts of rainfall which these dry farmed grapes heavily benefited from. This vintage brings together zinfandel from multiple blocks at Mustang Springs Ranch location. The “Windmill” block was the first to come in during the 2023 harvest and was fermented in our concrete tank to enhance minerality. From that lot, we pulled a midnight drain that was kept separate to add another layer to the blend.
Later in the season, second crop fruit from both the Cottage and Pipeline blocks was added in, bringing riper flavors and a different dimension of character. Every lot in this blend was natively fermented and pressed after about 20 days of skin contact, giving the wine its soft but assertive mouthfeel. The wine then spent time in roughly 30% new French oak barrels and puncheons, with the final blend assembled in late July 2024. The impact of new puncheons tends to be gentler than that of barrels due to the smaller amount of surface area per volume of wine in larger vessels. This wine was bottled in March of 2025. After submitting this wine to the Central Coast Wine Competition and Vinous it received a score of 96 from the CCWC earning a double-gold, and a score of 92 from Vinous.
2022 Ms Behave - 96 Points CCWC
We get asked all the time: Why is this wine called Ms. Behave?
The answer is that sometimes, when the wine is good, you just can’t help but misbehave a little.
A perennial favorite in the tasting room and the cellar, the 2022 Ms. Behave doesn’t stray too far from its predecessors—after all, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. This vintage, we added a little more influence from our favorite Burgundian cooper, which in turn turned up the coffee and spice to 11. The extra new oak also contributed quite a bit to the mouthfeel and weight of this wine, giving it beautiful tannin density and structure.
All the fruit was hand-picked and carefully sorted upon arrival at the winery. Two dry-farmed blocks of Malbec were fermented natively in bins. A concrete fermentation of Old Schoolhouse Malbec was juxtaposed with a barrel fermentation of the same lot to fill out the color palette. Each individual lot was allowed to proceed through secondary fermentation on its own in barrels and puncheons before we cherry-picked the best of each component to blend in the summer of 2023. The resulting wine spent an additional 11 months in 70% new French oak barriques and puncheons before being bottled in July of 2024. This wine received a scoring of 96 from the Central Coast Wine Competition giving it a double gold.
